Happiness Through April!

I know that everyone knows about Masterpiece Theatre's Jane Austen spring lineup, but here is the schedule in case you want to know when your favorites are coming up. (as if we won't watch them all--no DVR them all, watch them all, and watch them over and over, and subject our darling hubbies and all of our girlfriends to indulge with us!)

Persuasion was a delight. I haven't ever read the book, it is on my list, but I remember greatly the mid 90's version of the movie. Yummy! I may still like that one better, but this was a very lovely way to kick off our Delectable Spring.

What did you think?

The Sunny Side: Um, hello?

I can't believe I'm missing the first 2! Persuasion (I really wanted to see this one) because I didn't know it was on so soon, and Northanger Abbey because I'll be out of town! Putting the others on the calendar. Thanks for the tip!

Thanks, this is helpful. I was thinking I missed one. I have been taping since last Sunday, and I've got them all scheduled to be recorded. yay!

Well, you asked! There were parts of this Persuasion that I liked. Anthony Stewart Head's portrayal of Sir Walter was dead on. Rupert whatever his name is Jones grew on me and I did like his portrayal of Captain Wentworth. He did a good job of capturing the smoldering anger that Frederick still held for Anne.

I have to say, though, that I was very disappointed in Sally Hawkins' Anne. Anne Elliot is probably my favorite Austen heroine and I always could relate to her (probably because I, too, was the "spinster" sister! She is someone who, despite her heartbreak, was a strong woman. This Anne was weepy. I didn't like that. I loved Amanda Root's Anne so much better in the 1995 version. I thought that film was a much richer portrayal of the novel than this version was anyway.

The really good thing about this Persuasion? My 9 year old son watched most of it with us and was interested! Woo hoo!!

This was a nice start to the Austen season of Masterpiece though. I'm anxious for Northanger Abbey on Sunday!
