Thoughts on Edward

So my latest read has been the one that the whole nation is obsessed with. Or should I just say that I have finally met Edward.

Kind of like Madonna, Cher or Tattoo from Fantasy Island... everyone knows him by his first name. And everyone loves Edward. Giddy teenage girls, young singles, young marrieds, old marrieds-- I'd have to say that I am a bit amazed by the old-marrieds googling over this handsome young vampire.

He is a bit of a brooding hero-- I mean, face it, he sucks blood. But, as Edward's number 1 fan, my teenage daughter so adamantly challenges, "But, he is a VEGETARIAN vampire!" Could his overwhelming appeal be because he is the typical 'bad boy?' Ignore me, be mean to me, by the way, 'I love you.' Is it is amazingly sweet breath? His devastating good looks? Or could it be his sparkling skin in the sunshine?

The world may never know. But one thing is for certain. Edward, wherever you are, we love you.

The Cracked Pot

An elderly Chinese woman had two large pots, each hung on the ends of a pole which she carried across her neck.

One of the pots was cracked while the other pot was perfect and always delivered a full portion of water.
At the end of the long walks from the stream to the house, the cracked pot arrived only half full.

For a full two years this went on daily, with the woman bringing home only one and a half pots of water.
Of course, the perfect pot was proud of its accomplishments, but the poor cracked pot was ashamed of its own imperfection, and miserable that it could only do half of what it had been made to do.

After two years of what it perceived to be bitter failure, it spoke to the woman one day by the stream.

"I am ashamed of myself, because my cracked side causes water to leak out all the way back to your house."
The old woman smiled, "Did you notice that there are flowers on your side of the path, but not on the other pot's side?"
"That's because I have always known about your flaw, so I planted flower seeds on your side of the path, and every day while we walk back, you water them."
"For two years I have been able to pick these beautiful flowers to decorate the table.
Without you being just the way you are, there would not be this beauty to grace the house."

Each of us has our own unique flaw. But it's the cracks and flaws we each have that make our lives together so very interesting and rewarding.
You've just got to take each person for what they are and look for the good in them.

Magical Moments

This summer our family went on vacation to Walt Disney World. Wow, we had a blast!

This year was the Year of a Million Dreams, and we certainly got ours! Upon check-in at the Contemporary Resort, John was told to bring the family to the front desk because they had a surprise for us. (I had just been telling the big girls how unlucky we were.) We were told that we had been chosen as Family of the Day. This meant an upgrade to the main tower (we were staying in the garden suites) for the duration of our stay. Wow! We got chocolates and nuts and a certificate and balloons. Our name was on the hotel monitors. It was amazing. But wait, that's not all, they took A LONG TIME getting our room ready and we ended up getting yet another upgrade for our inconvenience-- this included staying on the club level. Maddy and Stephie were thrilled that we had to use our hotel key to even stop on our floor! There was a lovely lounge that had constant buffet yummies-- and oh, the lounge had a magic kingdom view, so we got to watch the fireworks from the lounge. What a magical memory for us!

Other Magical Moments:

Nicky was so excited when he met Mickey Mouse. Wow. That was incredible. He was so enthralled, and Mickey took extra time with him which was very special.

Lilly was just thrilled over the princesses -- especially Cinderella. She is convinced, as her mother was before her, that she will someday live in the castle.

Stephie got a kick out of seeing Dopey and touching his hand. He is a long-time favorite for her.

Maddy's highlight would have to be when a very cute Aladdin waved to her from atop his parade float.

Stephie's First Day of School

Stephie is in the 8th grade. It seems like just yesterday that she was crawling under the kitchen table and playing in the pots and pans cupboard. (sniff) She is a senior on the middle school campus. She really enjoys being on the tennis team. It is her niche and it fits her quite well.

Did I mention that she is taller than me?? What kind of crazy world are we living in anyway!?

Maddy's First Day of School

Maddy is a freshman in high school. It really doesn't seem that long ago that she was a baby and learning to walk and be a chatty toddler. (tear)

She is getting used to her rigorous schedule of early morning seminary class and homework.

Each day brings new things. Maddy is thrilled and mom tries really hard to be!

All in all, growing up is a good thing, right??

It's Official

Well, it finally happened. I stumbled my way through creating my own blog, and here I am-- dangling in cyber-space!!!

Lilly and Nicky keep me laughing all of the time. They love to get goofy. Nicky has just started to "sing." It is so cute! And because he has a raspy voice righ now it cracks me up.

The weekend was a fun one. At Rochelle's birthday I laughed harder than I have laughed in years. It was a house full of crazy married women who cut loose and had a blast.

Today Stephie rocked at her tennis match. She is ranked #2 on the Hillwood Tennis Team. With her partner Melissa, who is #1, they cranked in doubles against Grapevine. They won 6-3. In her singles match Stephie played fabulous and though she didn't win we were very proud of her. Do I sound like a proud Mama?
