Tooth Fairy Visits Nicky!

The Rite of Passage for all Kindergarteners!

He made it in (or the tooth made it out) just under the wire.
The last month of Kindergarten had Nicky sporting a nice gaping hole in the middle of his sweet grin.
Kindergarten, alas, may exit quietly.

First grade, here comes Nicky!

Nicky's First Gig

Our Bishop and his wife sell musical instruments. They needed a pint-sized model for their latest product.
The Cello Chump. (great name!)
Nicky models it below:
Oy!  I am tickled!

I just can't believe that my Little Man is 5 years old!

This fall he will start Kindergarten.

Who will hang on the back of my chair and play with my hair when he is off counting and gluing?

I think that I will be up at the school-- A LOT!

Nicky's New Room

Nicky's room has always had tan walls.

A cute room with tan walls, lots of windows,  red accents and toys everywhere.

One day he asked me why he didn't have pretty colorful walls like everyone else.

Gulp.

Here is our remedy.

First add green.

Then have artistic Daddy create some trees on each side of the window.

Snuggle in for the night.

Sweet Dreams, Little Man.

After "washing" his hands in the sink for a very long time...
Nicky:
"Mom, did you know that water is magic?"

Me:
"It is?"

Nicky:

Quote-of-the-Day

Nicky: 'Holy Cow' is okay to say, right?

Me: Yes.

Nicky: But 'Holy FREAKIN' Cow' isn't, right?

Me: (Gasp!) Right, Honey.

Nick Lingo

A Dascanio Family Dictionary:

As most kids do, Nicky has some pretty cute words. Of course my journaling ability is lame to poor, and I haven't recorded anything. In an attempt to remedy that, here are some fun Nickisms.

Lilly = Lil (pronounced, 'Lee-ul')

Gorgeous = Dorgeous

Something = Sumpin'

About to = Bowin' to

Stephie = Seffy

Actually = Atshally

Crocodile = Twoc-a-Diler

My personal favorite Nicky quote:

"You are perfect for a mom."

The Facts of LIfe

Nicky: Mom, was I born? Mom, was I born? Mom, was I born?...

Me: (tuning into the incessant chatter...) What?

Nicky: Mom, was I born?

Me: Yes.

Nicky: (to Lilly) Lilly, I was born. True story.

** he picked up this phrase from Big Sister Maddy-- she was very proud!**

If the Snot Fits...

Call it 'allergies,' or 'hayfever'- whatever it is... we've got it!

Poor Nicky, he was outside for an hour or so on Monday, and he has been suffering with congestion ever since!  Each and every year I wonder, 'why do we live here?'  You look on the map, and we are about the highest pollen rate that you can get.  Ugh!  It is so frustrating because the sun starts shining and we want to be outside, but the Snot Monster will be visiting soon afterward.

Yes, I have taken to the infant saline solution and bulb syringe to ease poor little Nicky's cappuccino machine-like breathing.  And let me tell you, toddler snot is a bit different than infant snot!  Ick. I'm telling you, whoever created the above critter, definitely had a toddler with snot issues!

Kid Bits

This morning John found Nicky in the gameroom wearing nothing but his diaper.

Since Nicky has a fever, John said that he can't sit around without his clothes. Nicky promptly replied, 'But Dad, I'm the Holy Ghost!'

(Nick and Lilly are always playing dress up and Nick has talked a lot this week about his lesson in Nursery on Sunday being on the Holy Ghost- super cute)

Nicky's 3rd Birthday!

Our Little Man is now 3 years old!

No official poses. He was a little busy either opening gifts, or licking frosting. Enjoy the candids!

Family Tradition: Breakfast in Bed; on the menu- scrambled eggs, toast and fruit salad.

Lilly was very happy that it was Nicky's birthday. She was really excited for him.

Here is the cake that John made for Nicky! He was so delighted. :)

We had parachute drops from the upstairs complete with paper planes and army guys. The kids had a lot of fun.

It was so cute to see him giggle when we were singing to him! He was super excited and pure joy was all over his face.

All in all, a totally great time. I can't believe that he is three years old! Preschool next year and then we'll be off and running all of the time. I think that right now I will hang out and watch Mickey Mouse Clubhouse with him!
The Sunny Side: Potty training is right around the corner! (wait, is that sunny?)

The Quiet Chair

Okay, so there are just some times when you are a parent when you have to just laugh,... and then get the camera.

Nicky has a bit of a listening problem. To be precise, he doesn't. He can, but sometimes he just refuses. We lovingly call him, 'the Brick.'

In all honesty, I can't remember what he was in trouble for that day. He was sentenced to the Quiet Chair. In general you have to stay there until you are quiet, and have reformed yourself, of course.

Nicky was on there for a LONG TIME. So long, in fact, that he fell asleep.

The Sunny Side: A great family story (with picture) for Future Bride to sigh and go, 'awww..'

One Stitch, Two Stitch, Red Stitch, Blue Stitch

After 5 long days of, "don't touch it, stop pulling it, leave it alone, I know that you don't want cream on it, leave your bandaid on!... please" Nicky finally got his stitches out!

As you can see by the photo, he got quite a bit of bruising about 2 days later. He looks really beat up and everyone always does a double-take and looks me over really well! It's so uncomfortable.

The removal was not uneventful (of course) and he had to be restrained and laid on while they removed the stitches. It is healed well, but started to bleed again, so I asked them to glue it with the Dermabond. I just knew that he would pick at it, so more restraining and screaming followed. UGH.
However, the volunteer felt so sorry for him that he managed to score a super tractor!

Me and the other man in my life.

Our deal was that after we got his stitches out that we would go to get a treat at the cafeteria and then ride the elevator! Nicky got chocolate milk, a donut and Froot Loops! What did I get? It doesn't matter... I am sure that it was healthly. ;-)

Safety Bear!

Imagine our delight to find Safety Bear and his policeman friend doing a song and dance number in the atrium!

Nicky got to meet Safety Bear, and yes, I got credit for hooking him up!
Gotta love it.
