Idol Watch

I totally missed last week because of Lilly's tooth-dangling episode... but caught the gist on tv.

No real surprises there. I only feel that it is a shame that Kristy Lee Cook went out when she was actually getting better each week. I think that she was finding her own as a country/pop singer, and was doing a nice job of it.

This week was Andrew Lloyd Webber week. Wow. Talk about intimidating. "Umm... yes, hello your Lordship, please allow me to massacre your song for you..."

Jason Castro is still adorable. Bless his baby heart, he had no idea that Cats was about, well CATS!
Of course his quote on Lennon-McCartney week got me into a fit of giggles, too. He sang, Michelle, ma belle.
And said something like this- don't take a big drink of a fizzy drink right now- "I didn't know it was french. I just thought it was, you know, 'mah bell.'" {in Texan drawl} Oh, we laughed hysterically about that for a while!!! Gotta love him. He can grin his way into our hearts on those days where the song just eludes him. So, this week he did Memories, probably one of the most well-known songs of Lord Webber, and, well, he kind of botched it, but his fans didn't let him down and we will be hearing from him again next week. Please bring your guitar, Jason. We can't resist it!


Brooke White lost the lyric and started over. It was a lackluster performance. Her fan base is huge, so she is staying with us. I have to say that I sent a few mercy-votes her way because I really like her Carly Simon/Carole King vibe. It brings out my Inner Hippie.

The Davids Dominated the Night!

Below is David Archuleta's take on Think of Me. Being a total Phantom of the Opera fan, it really moved me. He shook it up and made it his own, and for me, even though I am a Phantom purist, it was truly amazing.  

David Cook surprised us all by not rearranging The Music of the Night. I was a little worried because it didn't have his stamp on it at first, but it was so totally moving, and as Randy said it was a "molten hot lava bomb!" Enjoy



Syesha Mercado was amazing. She really hit it with her Broadway style. I think that she will do great in the Big Apple, but she is just not my idea of The American Idol.
It's almost an after-thought that we are saying good-bye to Carly Smithson. I used to really like her. She has an amazing voice, but I am just not feeling it.

Things I Never Thought I'd Hear Myself Say

So in my 15+ years of mothering, some pretty funny things have come out of my mouth. Every once in a while it will strike me-- 'Gee, I never thought that I'd hear myself say that!' So, in an attempt to document all of those precious pearls that I offer to my kids, I am starting a segment on my blog. If you have a good one, I'd love to hear and feature it.

So There You Have It...

Loved everyone's insight on my random thought!

I guess that I am not the only one who has asked this question. Here's what I found out.

From the Oxford English Dictionary, which says the saying may come from "a barrel of laughs," and word historian Charles E. Funk, who wrote: "One monkey arouses a great deal of amusement. Two or more then double the...amusement. If one were to release a barrelful...of monkeys, we must suppose that their antics would become hilariously comical."

Anybody want to play a game?  It really is fun.

So I was saying to my friend earlier...

"It's as much fun as a barrel of monkeys."

Then I got to thinking:

1. What does this mean?
2. How many monkeys fit in an average barrel?
3. Who was the first person to look at a barrel and say, "Gee, I bet this barrel would be a lot more fun if I filled it with monkeys." ???

All is Well

Lilly's tooth is going to be okay!  

Our amazingly sweet dentist x-rayed it and told us the happy news that the tooth was not damaged-- at all!  She needs to be careful for a few weeks, and it may turn dark and then turn back white [kind of like a bruise,] but it should be just fine.  

The Sunny Side:  

I am so thankful for the power of the priesthood.  I am thankful for a faithful husband and an kind home teacher who always comes running.  It is so sunny, I gotta wear my shades!  

Ouch!

Lilly had a bad fall on the tile last night. She and Nicky were running [yes, running in the house... hmm... gee, we should have a rule about running in the house... oh yeah... WE DO!] to the bathroom to brush their teeth, and they collided and Lilly ended up on the bottom with one of her sweet pearly white front teeth on the bathroom tile!

She had blood all over her face at first, which freaked me out, but we have had several mouth accidents so I knew that it was probably just her mouth. Upon inspection, not only was her lip split and swollen, but her tooth was hanging down a few millimeters, and tipped in a bit!

We have the best dentist ever who has an emergency number, and I couldn't believe how quickly he got back to me! He told me to try to push it back up into place. With orajel, tylenol and motrin I was able to ease it back up about half way back into place, and after John [who rushed home from home teaching] and our sweet home teacher gave her a blessing, John was able to ease it back a little bit further.

Hopefully she will not lose the tooth. I know that it is a minor thing compared to lots of things-- especially at her age kids will start loosing teeth soon, but it just made me sad because she said, '...but I won't be pretty!' [maybe we tell her she is cute too much, but she is a tiara-wearing princess every day of the week!]

Anyway, she was going to visit the dentist today anyway, so he is going to x-ray it. She slept all the way through the night, so her pain must not be bad.

The Sunny Side: It is a baby tooth that is bound to be falling out in the next couple of years. She didn't cut all the way through her lip. We have the priesthood for blessings.

Power Brekkie

Spinach-Banana Green Smoothie

1 cup Rice Milk
1 large handful Baby Spinach
1 banana

Blend spinach and milk; Add banana; Blend.

I haven't been doing my green smoothies as I had been, and I certainly have noticed a difference! My morning headaches are back and my energy has been flagging, so this morning, I am back on my green drink.

Try it! [I dare you] It will boost your energy, clear your head, and start out your day out well.

[don't think that I didn't longingly look at the wonderful brownie crumbles in the leftover FHE treat pan- because I did!]

Well, Sunny Side Up is putting on her 'Angry Eyes' today!

I just can't even believe the Elimination on American Idol last night!?!

Okay, I know that the competition is tough this year. I knew that it was going to get sticky soon. I knew that I would start getting sad since I have a few favorites. We can't all be winners-- I Get It. But,

Come, on... Michael Johns?!? Are you kidding me? This is some kind of joke, right? First time in the bottom three and out? He was absolutely stunned.

He has such a Huge Voice. He definitely seems like he could be a front man for a band and sell records now. He took on songs by The Doors, Simple Minds, Queen... and he nailed them. He has Star Quality. And an amazing amount of Charisma. The good looks and the Aussie accent do everything to recommend him as a celebrity. I most definitely disagree.

Michael Johns,

American Idol just won't be the same without you. I hope that you are signing a record deal right now. We'll buy them. We'll love them.

It's All Wrong, But It's All Right

I actually have a lot of other things going on in my life besides American Idol, truly I do. But, I am enjoying this season so much that I get totally excited about it.

I am telling you that last night's performance by Jason Castro was AMAZING! Wow. Goosebumps. Tears. You name it, I had them.



David Archuleta's performance was terrific. He is definitely the one who probably has the lion's share of the votes. Popular young phenom.


David Cook rocked it out last night, though it wasn't my favorite performance. It didn't move me, so I was somewhat disappointed. Though, I believe that he is a shoe-in for the top 4.



Michael Johns' was great, too. I mean how can you go wrong with 'Dream On?' (Yes, much to the chagrin of my hubby, I am a closet Aerosmith fan)

Tonight is Idol Gives Back. A special American Idol where specific Charities are highlighted and you have the opportunity to donate.
Some of the charities are:
The Children's Defense Fund, The Global Fund, Make It Right, Malaria No More, Save The Children, U.S. Programs and the Children's Health Fund.
